Our Origin Story

Vancouver, 1999. Mike was working as a grip on commercials. All around town, grips were working with imported products and materials that weren’t quite right for the job. He began making his own flags, frames, and accessories for key grips, creating more sizes and products as needs grew. Vancouver needed its own source for cinematography and VFX lighting, materials, and devices; Best Film emerged.

Mike recognized a need in the local industry. He started renting screens out of a small barn, eventually moving into a garage and then to various spaces in East Van. It wasn’t long before he was producing orders for Vancouver’s top technicians, and expanding to build relationships internationally.

Mike and Niki Branham founded Best Film Service in 2001. Since then our team has steadily grown.
